STATEMENT

Is there a way to preserve architecture in a better condition? ARCHI HATCH began with this single question.
One method of appreciating actual architecture in a different form is through architectural models. These models provide us with a comprehensive visual representation of the architecture, while also allowing us to capture the texture of materials and the traces of trial and error. This, in turn, fosters a stronger connection to the architecture. However, these architectural models, originally created for pre-construction evaluation, are mostly discarded once their purpose is served, and even if we choose to store them, space limitations become an issue. Additionally, in the process of digitisation, such as CG modelling, separate effort from the design process is required to enhance accuracy, and it is not easy to retain the warmth found in architectural models. In light of this situation, I decided to explore new recording methods.
The ARCHI HATCH recording method not only provides a 360° perspective of the architecture, just like an architectural model, but also achieves a level of realism surpassing traditional models. Moreover, you can freely zoom in and out, allowing you to have an aerial view of the building or experience it from a viewpoint that enters inside. At the same time, this 3D data can be utilised not only for recording and viewing but also for various other purposes, such as film production, updating 3D model representations, and evaluation during the design stage. I believe this opens up possibilities to generate new profits.
In recent years, numerous historical architectures have been demolished due to deterioration. ARCHI HATCH has recorded several of these significant architectures before their demolition. This 3D data, which can be used for more than just plans during restoration, holds the potential for new methods of preservation and archiving. Additionally, I have been documenting temporary spaces, including exhibitions. In contemporary art, where spatial composition plays a crucial role, recording in 3D data will undoubtedly become an important source for future artists and art researchers.
Since 2017,ARCHI HATCH started to recoding , especially during the COVID-19 pandemic when people's mobility was restricted, I have used this method to record numerous demolished architectural masterpieces and temporary exhibitions, allowing people to experience the spaces remotely. Currently, the total number of such 3D models exceeds 600. In this exhibition, I am delighted to offer a few dozen of these precious 3D models for you to experience.
