ARCHI HATCH太は、2021年より始まった渋谷区17か所にわたるTHE TOKYO TOILETの3Dアーカイブ企画・制作の中心に立ちました。このプロジェクトは、単なる「建築の記録」にとどまらず、都市の公共空間が持つ文化性や「おもてなし」の精神を未来に伝える壮大な挑戦でもあります 。(ミラノサーロネ時は12箇所を発表）
そしてその成果は、2022年ミラノサローネの会場において、トリエンナーレ・ミラノで初公開されました。全13地点の3D映像が、本国・日本を超え、世界に向けて東京の公共建築の美しさと多様性、そして日常を豊かにするデザイン力を語りかけた瞬間でした 。
この映像は、13か所の実物スケール・セグメント展示とともに来場者の五感を刺激し、公衆トイレという日常空間の再定義に挑む機会となりました。日本の“omotenashi”を象徴する「美しく、清潔で、誰もが使える公共設備」への想いが、ミラノの地で力強く表現されたのです 。
ARCHI HATCH has been leading the planning and production of a comprehensive 3D archive of THE TOKYO TOILET since 2021, documenting all 17 locations across Shibuya Ward. This project is not merely an act of architectural preservation—it is a bold and forward-looking challenge to capture and transmit the cultural value of urban public spaces and the spirit of omotenashi (Japanese hospitality) to future generations.
(At the time of the Milan Salone, 12 locations were included in the initial release.)
The first presentation of this work took place at Triennale Milano during Milan Design Week 2022. There, 3D visualizations of 13 locations were unveiled, offering international audiences a compelling glimpse into the beauty, diversity, and human-centered design that characterize Tokyo’s public architecture.
These digital archives were exhibited alongside life-size segments of 17 toilets, stimulating the senses and prompting visitors to reconsider the meaning of public restrooms. More than functional infrastructure, the installations conveyed a deep respect for cleanliness, dignity, and universal accessibility—values that lie at the heart of Japan’s approach to public space, powerfully expressed on the global stage in Milan.
